Important Information
When you are looking for a
tattoo or piercing establishment, there are several important things to make
sure of before getting tattooed or pierced.
• Always ask to see artist’s license. All tattoo and piercing artist are
required by law to be licensed by the state. To acquire this license, they must
complete a blood borne pathogens course and an apprenticeship. If the artist
can’t produce the license, do not let them work on you.
• The establishment should also be inspected by the health department 4 times a
year. They should be proud of their score and display it where it
can
be seen by everyone! If not, you can ask to see the inspection sheet which will
tell you how clean and safe the establishment is.
• When getting a piercing, there are several things to check before getting
pierced. First of all, make sure that the piercer uses 316 LVM implant grade
surgical stainless steel jewelry without any gems or dangles. The better quality
the jewelry, the better your piercing will heal.
Secondly, make sure that the piercer uses the right jewelry for the piercing. If
they don’t take into account how your body is shaped, you could wind up with a
piercing that looks bad or won’t heal. Lastly, make sure that the piercer
explains to you how to care for your new piercing (see
our aftercare section).
• Make sure that the establishment has an autoclave. Tattoo and piercing shops
are required by the health department to test their autoclave weekly. You can
ask to see the results of the tests to make sure the autoclave is functioning
properly.
• All tattoos and piercings should be done with brand new needles for each
customer. If you don’t see them take the needle out of the package, don’t let
them work on you.
• Always check out artists’ portfolios before letting them tattoo you. This will
show you what kind of work they produce before they work on you. Every artist
should be happy to show off their work!
• A good way to find an artist is through word of mouth. If see someone with a
tattoo that you like, don’t be afraid to ask them where they got it. Of course,
don’t just take a persons word for the artist’s integrity, don’t forget about
everything else we already talked about!
Most importantly, you should feel comfortable in the shop and with your artist.
If you are unsure, ask questions until you feel comfortable. If you don’t get
answers that satisfy you, don’t be afraid to say no.

Minor
Policies
You must be 18 to
get tattooed in the state of Tennessee. Vivid Tattoo will not tattoo any minor
for any reason, ever! So don’t ask.
Vivid Tattoo will perform only the following piercings on minors age 16 to
18…navels, ears/cartledge, eyebrows, nostrils, tongue, labrets/monroes. We will
not perform any other piercings on anyone under 18, even with parent’s
permission…so again, don’t ask.
Parents must be in the shop with the minor at all times.
We have release forms that the parent must fill out. We will make a copy of the
parent’s driver’s license on the back of the release form, if the parent does
not have a driver’s license or state issued ID card, we will not pierce the
minor.
We only allow one person in the procedure room with the person getting
pierced…this means your parent. Do not bring all of your friends with you to
watch, because they won’t be able to.
Parents, it is your responsibility to make sure that your child follows
aftercare instructions on their piercing. You will leave here with a piercing
that was done in a clean, sterile environment by a trained professional piercer.
If it gets infected, we will help in anyway we can, but following all
instructions will help cut out any problems during the healing process.
